Helicopter & Zodiac Iceberg Tour
Cruise past icebergs the size of apartment buildings!
Fly by helicopter to Lake George, awarded Natural Landmark status for its scenic beauty. On the way, admire the mighty Knik Glacier from the helicopter. We often see wildlife; bears, moose and mountain goats are all observed daily. As the helicopter descents towards the lake you’ll realize the scale of the glacier and icebergs; everything out here is XXL! Some of the icebergs, commonly referred to as ‘bergs’ are the size of an apartment buildings and may take several years to melt. Once the helicopter sets down your guide will get you outfitted with life jackets and accompany you to the boat. This is a 15.5′ long Zodiac style boat, similar of that used by Special Forces. It is equipped with a small, quiet 4-stroke outboard motor. Within minutes you’ll be on your way to see the icebergs up close. We’ll listen to the ice cracking and hopefully watch chunks of ice fall into the lake. Take a piece of glacier ice back to put in your favorite drink that evening. The massive Colony Glacier icefall comes into view and you’ll find yourself surrounded by giant icy monoliths. Some of the ‘bergs’ are smooth and deep blue, others are rough and bright white. We’ll get within a safe proximity to the icebergs– typically within 100′. Since it’s an open boat you have great visibility all around. A prefect environment for picture taking of these incredible sculptures of nature.
Make this the ultimate adventure with an additional glacier landing add-on. In route back to the lodge, you’ll make an additional glacier landing for 30-minutes to explore the azure blue melt pools and bizarre ice formations with your pilot guide.
